(More customer reviews)I bought this mail slot to replace an old one that was letting a ton of cold air into the house. This mail slot is well made. The metal is nice and solid, and the door meets flush with the walls when it closes. It's not 100% air tight, but I think that can be helped with some weather stripping. I did a lot of research, and I think it's worth the extra $50 over the cheaper looking models. The only thing I didn't like is that 4 corner bars that connect the front and rear plate are welded onto the front plate. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but this caused issues on the install b/c the trim on the front of my door is thicker and hangs down lower than the back of the door. Because I couldn't push the bars through the back, I had to cut away more trim from the front give a straight approach (vs. hollowing out some of the trim and installing the front plate by coming in at an "up and in" angle). Also, the mail slot isn't as red as the picture looks. It's more of a brass color with a black antiquing brushed onto it. It still looks nice though.
Just a word of caution if you are planning on altering your current hole or installing a completely new one.... I had to increase the size of the mail slot whole in my door to make this thing work. It was about 3x harder and took much longer than I thought it would. My handyman skill level is probably advanced-homeowner. Plan accordingly

NUETRAL:
Not 100% air tight, but I didn't expect it to be. Metal door meets metal frame.
Not really red like the picture shows. Still looks nice and not worth shipping back.
CONS:
Corner bars are welded to the front. It would be nice for them to screw into both sides.

Made of solid brass, The Deluxe Mail Slots are hand-crafted with the word "MAIL" cast into the flap. Heavy duty tamper proof brass bolts secure the front and back frames to each other from the rear and accommodate doors and walls from 1 1/4" - 1 7/8"D. Each is 1/4" thick and available in three finishes. Deluxe mailbox slots may be used for USPS residential door mail delivery. Master postal lock not required.
