At the risk of sounding like a Jedi Master..."this is not the mailbox you are looking for, move along". Though I was able to work around the product's limitations, here is a list of things that did not impress me about my purchase:
-No outgoing mail section, only incoming.
-Since there is no outgoing mail, it of course does not come with an outgoing mail indicator.
-Came with too many of some parts, not enough of others (2 missing screws, 5 too many washers, 3 missing screw caps).
-NOT gasketed and NOT water-resistant. Your mail WILL get wet. There are large spaces under the top lid, gaps at all corners, and at both doors.
-Box is not a 1-piece unit, it comes pre-assembled in 4 parts held together by nuts and bolts.
-Not all the pieces are cast accurately or meet squarely, as a result, the swinging intake door on my unit did not sit flush, and has a gap at one corner.
-Packaging was not impressive. Some parts had fitted Styrofoam protection, others had random Styrofoam blocks around them. Unit did not arrive damaged, but regardless.
-The top lid overhang is a wasp nest waiting to happen.
-The powder-coat is ok on viewable sections, but places like the back of the door, bottom of the box and inside of the base where devoid of paint.
-Minimal instructions and no template for the base mounting screws.
Since a toppled tree had destroyed my old mailbox, I really did not have the luxury of returning the unit, or I would have. The instructions consist of a 1 sided piece of paper with 4 drawings on it, no words. It is a photocopy of a photocopy so images of small parts are just a lump of dots and dashes, you'll have to guess in spots. There is no template to mark where to put the screws that will mount the base to your concrete slab. I had to draw out my own template using the base as a guide. I got around the missing parts with a trip to HomeDepot for hard to find metric bolts. Still working on what to use in place of the missing screw caps. Got around the lack of gasketing and the multiple openings for water with 1 entire 12 oz. tube of white silicone injected into as many joints, crevices & gaps as possible. This still does not resolve the issue with the tops of both the intake and access doors. Each one has a 1"x10" gap that silicone simply can't fill. Bad design. The intake door does not sit flush because the section it mounts to has flanges to connect it to the other sections. One of those flanges was cast ¼" off center, thus the door can never sit flush. The lid overhang is not deep enough to keep more than a light rain out, but will make a perfect condo for the first wasp or bee that finds it. Only thing I'll be able to do about that is keep a can of Wasp & Bee spray around. Finally, the access door rubs at the top lid and would not close unless forced. Had to grind away some of the door with a metal file so it will swing close without rubbing. I threw on some enamel paint on the bare metal. After all of that, I finally mounted the unit to my slab and noticed something I had not before. ***THERE IS NO OUTGOING MAIL AREA!*** Your mailman can put mail in, but you can't send mail out, unless you leave the rear door unlocked! Of course even if they know that the read door is unlocked, it's tough to open because there is no handle. They'll never know when there is mail there regardless, because there is no red outgoing mail indicator flag.
So, to summarize, this is a cheap knock-off of the Solar Group unit you see at some home supply stores and here on Amazon. Those units have their issues also, but reviews indicate that manufacturer is at least making improvements to their product. Spend the extra money and get that unit instead, otherwise be prepared to spend more on gas, caulking, and time to make this unit usable. I give this unit 2 stars because it arrived quickly, was undamaged and was priced cheaply, NOT because I would recommend its quality (or lack thereof).
